A CNA is a Certified Nursing Assistant, it really depends on the type of work that is being done as to what the title of the job is going to be called. In some areas they can be referred to as Home Health Aides or Nurse’s Aids. CNA’s can be found working in just about every kind of health care setting. They do most of the personal one on one care giving when it comes to taking care of a patients day to day routine. They work under the supervision of a nurse and care for a diverse population of patients.
There are many different ways that a person can go about finding CNA training. Most community colleges, Red Cross, or other medical facility training schools will offer some kind of training whether it be a CNA certification or a degree. The classes are typically taught by a registered nurse and it really depends on the length of the training as to when the program can be completed. In some areas CNA classes may run for just two weeks and then have a period of actual hands on training to follow, once again it really depends on where you receive your training. The classes that you are going to be taking will be going over the basics of what to expect when you are employed. Your skill level will increase as you gain more experience and knowledge of the job by doing the actual work. There is also cna training online if that makes going to school easier. Often times people have children or other obligations that can get in the way of attending everday classes.
The outlook for someone wanting to get started in the field as a Certfiied Nursing Assistant is going to be great! There is always a huge demand for someone who is wanting to get started in the field of nursing. Upon starting in the field you will be given tasks such as dressing the patients (depending on the need for assistance), bathing (bed baths, tub baths, showers), feeding (serving meals, feeding if unable to feed themselves), toileting (assisting with bed pans and urinals, help to and from bathroom, incontinent care), vital signs, catheter care, answering call lights, helping with exercises, making sure bedridden patients are cared for and turned ever so often, and assistance with wheelchairs. This is only a short list of the responsibilities of a CNA nursing assistant, there are tons more as with any nursing job. The average starting salary for a CNA can vary because it is based on where you live. Typically a CNA salary will be anywhere between $8.00-14.00 an hour. It can also be based on how much experience you have along with education. The hours of work will be decided when it comes to where you choose to work or can find CNA employment. You can find full and part time shifts when it comes to this type of work.
