CNA Training in Alaska (AK)
Alaska is at present having a shortage of CNAs (Certified Nurse Assistants) and this shortfall is expected to increase in the next decade. Health establishments across the state are constantly in search of nursing professionals and if a person is pursuing a cna career he or she is almost always assured a job. CNA training in Alaska (AK) is increasing in demand and many colleges are partnering with health establishments to provide this training.
CNA training in AK is usually for duration of 140 hours as compared to the usual 75 hours required in most other states. Some of the well-known and approved institutions which give cna classes in AK have a program of 230 hours, spanning a period of eight weeks. On an average the candidate is required to attend six hours of training a day in a full-time course. In this type of intensive CNA training the candidate undergoes the first four weeks learning in classes and practicing in laboratory. The next four weeks is devoted to practical hands-on training in clinical settings. The practical training in patient care is also practiced for six hours a day, under the management of a qualified health professional.
To get a cna certification in Alaska a candidate requires a GED or high school diploma. After the completion of the training program the candidate is eligible to appear for the cna certification exam and on successfully completing this, he has to undergo a physical health examination to rule out tuberculosis and other diseases, and also clear a criminal background check. After all this the person is licensed to practice as a CNA in Alaska.
In Anchorage, AVTEC (Alaska Institute of Technology) has joined with Providence Health System to provide a certified CNA training program, and for people of Ketchikan, Sitka and Juneau, The University of Alaska is partnering with Wildflower Court to provide CNA training. Other places in AK also have CNA programs which are given by community colleges and health establishments.
