CNA Training in Louisiana (LA)

A CNA (Certified Nursing Assistant) has a fulfilling as well as a well paying career and the demand for these professionals is increasing by the day. Each state has its own set of rules that govern CNA training programs and they have to be in accordance with the minimum federal requirements. The different programs for CNA certification in Louisiana have to be approved by the DHH (Louisiana Department of Health and Hospitals).

CNA training in LA has to be for a minimum of 80 hours, of which 40 hours are for classroom training and the other 40 hours is for practical clinical training. After completing this training the candidate has to appear for an exam for CNA certification in LA and upon successfully passing it, his name gets included in the CNA registry in LA maintained by DHH. The candidate also has to clear a criminal history check before getting employment.

CNA training in LA will make the candidate competent to be a nurse’s aide and skilled in routine care of the patient. Some of the topics covered in the training program are nursing fundamentals, control of infection, emergency procedures, restorative care, rights of the patient and mental health. The candidate also gets practical hands-on training in patient care under the supervision of a registered nurse in a clinical setting. The certification exam also has two stages; one of written exam and the other which is a demonstration of the skills learnt by the candidate.

Fletcher Technical Community College in Houma, Sowela Technical Community College in Lake Charles, Cameron College in New Orleans, Louisiana Technical College in Bastrop and Nunez Community College in Chalmette.
