The increasing demand for CNA’s in the health industry has prompted many people to jump into this well paying and fulfilling career. Every state has a number of CNA training programs which conform to federal guidelines and are approved by the state. CNA training programs in Minnesota are to be of the minimum duration of 75 hours as set by federal laws. CNA certification in MN is much more lenient as the candidate does not require attending a state approved training program to appear for the CNA competency state exam. Although this is the case, it is very unlikely that a candidate can pass this exam without the proper training.
Programs providing CNA training in Minnesota need the approval of the State Department of Health and this department also maintains the database of licensed CNAs in the state. There are currently about 130 approved CNA training programs in MN and the classes are divided into two parts. One part deals with theoretical classroom and lab training while the other provides hands-on practical training in skills which are needed for patient care. The practical training is usually provided in long term care facilities or nursing homes, with actual patients, under the direct supervision of a registered nurse or nursing educator.
After successfully completing CNA classes and passing the exam for CNA certification in MN, the candidate is eligible for a full refund of the cost of training if he works for a minimum of 90 days in a long term health care facility in the state.
