CNA Certification
CNA Certification requires that you either attend a class that gives you the proper training to do the job, or you can work in a setting such as a nursing home where you will be given hands-on training that enables you to be able to pass the CNA Certification test. All states are different in what they require a CNA to know, but all do require that you pass a state exam that is usually given by a registered nurse who specializes in testing your knowledge of each and every aspect of working as a CNA.
Currently there are CNA classes that take as little as two days to finish, but these types of classes only offer you the skills you need to pass your CNA certification test. You will get very little hands-on training which may make doing your job harder until you get more experience.
One of the best types of training you can receive for CNA certification is a class that lasts at least a month. There is CNA training online, however the hands on schooling is sometimes better. In this type of class you will begin by learning the different aspects of what you will be doing from a school book. You will read about and be taught how to handle all personal care for the patient, including taking vital signs, how to give bed baths, transferring your patient in a safe manner, along with the rules and regulations a CNA must adhere to. This type of class is usually broken into two parts. The first is actual class work. You will be taught by a teacher who is usually a registered nurse. You will be given tests on the material you have covered in the books. You will be taught medical abbreviations, the normal ranges for some tests, how to watch for signs of serious illness in your patient and how to make out reports.
In the second part of the CNA Certification class you will most likely do clinical work in a nursing home or hospital setting. This will give you the required experience you need to actually look after your patients in a personal way. You will learn how to make reports to your superiors, do charting, learn to bathe and use the shower room in the facility, participate in feeding patients that are bedridden, and learn to take those that are not to the dining area. You may get to work on different floors of the facility, which also prepares you for your CNA Certification. You will be exposed to patients that are suffering from Dementia or just the problems that being older in age cause. A CNA Career can be a worthwhile and enjoyable job. If you want to test the waters of being employed in the field of medicine, CNA certification may be for you.
