CNA Salary
The salary you earn as a CNA will vary depending on several things. The area you live in is one factor. If you are working as a CNA in the United States, the state in which you live will play a big role in your salary. In the southern states a CNA will earn less then those who work and reside in the North East. For instance, the average salary for a new CNA in Florida will be approximately $9 an hour, whereas the same type of job for a CNA with the same amount of experience in New York, would be approximately $13 an hour.
The type of job you are employed in will also play a big part in the amount of a CNA's salary. If you work in a nursing home setting, you will earn slightly less then a CNA that chooses to work in a doctor's office. If the CNA works for a home health agency, they may make a slightly higher salary then both of the above mentioned settings. As a Home Health CNA you will sometimes get extra perks and bonuses, due to the fact that you are driving your own vehicle to the clients home. You may get paid a certain amount for your gas mileage and the wear and tear on your vehicle, plus an allowance for gas each payday.
A CNA's salary will also greatly depend on his or her experience. The more you have, the higher salary you can expect to make. There are many CNA's who have stayed with the same company for many years and earn quite a satisfactory income. As the demands grow for all working in the field of medicine or nursing, you can expect to be offered a more generous pay.
Different states also allow CNA's to do a different variety of jobs. In most states CNA's do not attend to the patients needs as far as changing catheters, although you will be expected to learn how to record the intake and output of the patient by measuring the contents of the bag. If you reside in a state that trains you to actually do the procedure in inserting caths you will more then likely earn a higher salary. In essence, the more experience you have as a CNA, the higher your salary should become. You can also search the employment advertisements if you don't feel that you are being paid a fair amount. There are almost always job openings for CNA's. Do the research on the company you wish to work for, or better yet, speak with an employee if you get the chance. Word of mouth is a great way to learn which companies are fair to their CNA's and which take advantage of them salary wise.
